Brewing Guide: Hario V60
Supplies Needed:
- Hario V60 Dripper & Filters
- Hario V60 Kettle (or other kettle, preferably gooseneck for easy pouring)
- Scale & timer
- 340 grams of Water (210 degrees or just off a boil)
- 20 grams of fresh ground coffee (medium grind)
- Makes one 10 oz cup
Steps:
- Rinse the paper filter
- Add fresh ground coffee to the brew cone
- Shake brew cone to level the grounds and dig a shallow hole in the center of the grounds using your finger or a spoon
- Tare scale and start your timer
- Pour 60 grams of water into the brew cone, fully saturating the grounds
- Spin the brew cone fearlessly (aim to finish by 0:15)
- Wait...
- At 0:45 steadily pour 100 grams of water into the brew cone
- Manage your flow rate to finish at about 1:00
- Give the brew cone a quick little spin (gentler than the first time)
- Let it drain until 1:15
- Pour another 100 grams of water into the brew cone (aim to finish at 1:30)
- Give the brew cone another little spin
- Drain until 1:45
- Pour another 80 grams of water into the brew cone for a total of 340 grams (finish pouring at about 2:00)
- Give the brew cone another little spin
- The finished bed of coffee grounds should level and flat
- If it's lumpy, you may need to grind coarser
- Total brew time: 3:00 +/- 15 seconds
- If it drains too fast grind finer; if it drains too slow grind coarser
