Mensur Abahika is one of the leading members of the Tokuma Farmer Group, a collective of producers in the Western Ethiopian region of Jimma. The group was organized to market and export the coffee of its members as single producer lots, a strategy that is atypical for a country where most producers sell their coffee cherry to local cooperatives and community washing stations. Mensur grows and processes his own coffee right there on his own farm, giving him total control over the quality and separation of his product. He also buys and processes cherry from smaller farms in the area, known as “outgrowers”. Mensur is well liked in the community, and works closely with other members of Tokuma to streamline processing and export logistics, improving both quality and profitability for its members. Together, Mensur and the rest of the Tokuma farmers hope to expand their rolls to include as many local producers as possible.

With this dry processed lot from Mensur we taste milk chocolate, strawberry, and lemon peel.

This is our first year buying from Mensur Abahika. We wrote a forward contract in February 2024 to buy 5 60kg bags for $4.55/lb FOT, on a day when the Coffee Commodity price was $1.91/lb. We cupped this offer at origin in January 2024 and scored it 87 points.
